Our Story

The concept for The Family Yoga Project was born during the weeks following the global pandemic in 2020 when Erin was home quarantined with her two sons who were an infant and toddler at the time.  In addition to raising kids during uncertain times, she was in the midst of a career change, struggling with identity and coping with devastating family news. With no in-person social outlets to turn to, Erin often felt overwhelmed while juggling the demands of motherhood.

Tapping into previously learned knowledge about mindfulness, she turned to yoga.  Finding the time and energy during the day felt nearly impossible so Erin started small.  She carved out short ten minute segments in the morning and began meditating daily. She found a virtual yoga class offered by an amazing local teacher and became a dedicated student. Little by little and over time, she started to feel the powerful effects the practice was having on her. She found that it gave her a greater capacity for patience and calm in the mist of the chaos and the ability to parent in a more mindful way.

Erin’s passion for yoga deepened and she began her 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training at Boston Yoga Union that fall which changed her life.  As she learned about the expansiveness of the teachings of yoga beyond the physical postures, she found herself constantly applying her training and practices to her experience of parenting.  In the years that have followed, she continues to feel a strong link between her yoga practice and the connection it has helped her make with her kids and most importantly, herself.

She also noticed how her kids were naturally drawn to doing yoga and had so much fun while doing it!  She began researching yoga for children and when she learned of the amazing benefits, the seed for The Family Yoga Project was planted.

Meet Erin

Hi and welcome!  I’m so glad you’re here. I’m Erin Holland, mom to two amazing boys and wife to my husband Dan. My yoga practice has become an essential part of my life and I’d be a much different mom without it.  I’m passionate about sharing yoga and all of its benefits with children and families in the hopes that it helps them live a more mindful and connected life. With completing my RYT-200 and RCYT-95 certifications and having an educational background in Elementary Education, Human Development and Special Education, I’m excited to share my knowledge and experience teaching children with you and your families.

But to be honest, it has taken me a while to get to this point.  When I first tried yoga in my 20’s it was an adjustment. As a former competitive athlete, I was used to fast-paced workouts and in yoga I had a difficult time moving slowly, holding poses and felt uncomfortable doing meditation. But something kept drawing me back to the mat, on and off, for years.

Fast forward, I got married, became a mom x2, left my corporate job, transitioned to stay-at-home and part-time working mom, struggled with identity and purpose, and found myself home full time with a toddler and a baby during the global pandemic.  THAT was the time yoga became transformational for me and I began to meditate and practice daily.

Now years later, yoga continues to be the grounding force that helps me stay more centered and present as I navigate the emotional roller coaster of parenting and life.  I discovered a love for sharing the gift of yoga with kids and began teaching at local elementary schools in my community a few years ago.

I am forever grateful for my yoga teachers, Sandy Klemmer, Caitlyn Visconte, Emily Jonas, Tim Kelleher and Maggie Downey, who have helped me on my path and continue to inspire me every day and I’m deeply honored to both lead and learn from all of my yoga students.
